Growing up in a bustling retail flower shop, I found consistent inspiration each time I visited the flower market. Following my Grandmother around as she walked each aisle, inspecting the harvest, and carrying on with the vendors, I unwittingly initiated a ritual that I continue today.

My first recollection of a special event is of one that took place in the late 70’s, when we designed a fashion show for an international fragrance line. We transformed a hotel ballroom into a chic lounge and I walked out of the room that afternoon with an appreciation for another side of floristry; event design. Eventually, I ventured out on my own, and some 1500 plus weddings and events later, I still find that journey invigorating.

Flowers have a unique way of capturing our senses. They are nature’s gift to the aesthetic world and I’ve always found myself drawn to this beauty. Often it is the color palette or the movement and lines of a given stem. Sometimes it’s an intoxicating fragrance or collection of textures that you can touch and feel. I consider myself fortunate to have such a dynamic medium with which to express my art.

Every host is inspired by an emotion that they wish to have reflected in their event. Your event projects that feeling or emotion which inspires you. As your guests enter the environment, the defining personality will reveal that emotion. It is my privilege to create the vehicle that allows your guests to share in your sentiment. My question is: what feeling do you wish to evoke?

My name is Michael Mantalos.
